Recovering

Press R to recover in place. The rig is set upright and may move to a nearby clear spot.

Use reset to trail to return to the nearest point on the trail. The game also offers a reset after the rig has stayed rolled over for several seconds.

If you recover three times in the same soft spot within a short time, the third recovery moves the rig to the nearest firm ground. This applies to mud, sand and water, and it doesn't send you back to the trail.
